Best landing spots for Stephon Gilmore

Best spots for Stephon Gilmore

By: Jake Rajala

Stephon Gilmore once won a Defensive Player of The Year award. At 34 years old, Gilmore is seeking to find the right team, which may be a Championship contender. Just as the 34 year old Darius Slay found a home in Pittsburgh (before Jalen Ramsey arrived), Gilmore is trying to prove that age is just a number. With that said, I’m going to unfold the best landing spots for Gilmore.

Miami Dolphins

It would be hard to miss that the Dolphins need a replacement for Ramsey, after they interestingly traded Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers. Gilmore is more reliable than the second year CB Storm Duck, who had a PFF grade of 55.5 last season. Then there is Jason Marshall Jr, who is a fifth round pick in the 2025 draft. I don’t believe either of them is even fit to be a CB2 on a team.

Detroit Lions

Gilmore can chase a Super Bowl with the Lions. Plus, they need more depth in their secondary. I believe Gilmore could start over D.J. Reed at CB2, or still have a big role at CB3. Neither of the starting CBs for Detroit recorded an interception last season. Plus, their pass defense gave up 45 points to the Commanders when it mattered the most.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints traded the Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore in the past season to the Washington Commanders. To make matters worse, they watched Paulson Adebo leave in free agency. The Saints have Kool-Aid McKinstry and Alontae Taylor, but they could use another CB that could push them to start.

New York Jets

Sauce Gardner had a bit of a down year last season. He may benefit from a veteran showing him the ropes and even guarding more talented wide receivers. I don’t quite believe that the Jets should give Gardner an extension quite yet. He had a PFF grade of 70.2 last season.

Los Angeles Rams

Darius Williams is the starting CB and he’s 32 years old. I believe Gilmore is more talented as a senior. I believe Gilmore could start over one of the Rams starting CBs, who also both failed to have an interception last season. The Rams play in one of the most difficult divisions in football. Just as they brought in Jalen Ramsey before, it could be time to bring in another quality veteran CB.
