Best coaches in the NFC South
By: Jake Rajala
The NFC South has many prominent head coaches. There are young, old, offensive-minded, and defensive-minded coaches in the division. With that said, I’m going to rank the head coaches.
4. Dave Canales
Dave improved alongside Bryce Young last season. Young went 4-8, while throwing 15 TDs to 9 ints. Canales hasn’t won a Super Bowl, regardless if it was as a coordinator. He also hasn’t had consistent, elite offense or defense, where ever he’s been. If Young is even average next season, I don’t believe Canales keeps his job.
3. Raheem Morris
Raheem Morris knows how to fire up a football team. After being the Falcons HC in 2020, he sought a second chance with the Falcons. He went 8-9 with a “poor QB situation”, so I will give him a decent grade: perhaps a B-. Morris once went 10-6 with the Buccaneers, but that’s his best season. His overall record is 29-47.
2. Kellen Moore
Kellen Moore is a reigning Super Bowl champion. He called the buttons on an offense that was fifth in PPG. Furthermore, he ran a play called “tush push”, which was unstoppable. He also had an offense as an offensive coordinator at Dallas that was sixth, one, and fourth in PPG.
1. Todd Bowles
Todd Bowles is a genius and a hard worker. He sets up the best structure possible. His mindset taps into everyone. He went 9-8 in 2023 and 10-7 last season. The Bucs had the fourth highest scoring offense last season. His offense was also third in yards.
The NFC South has many unique coaches, as previously noted. Three of these coaches (not including Todd Bowles) are on the hot seat. They don’t have an established, franchise QB, so it can be hard for them to hold onto their job. With that said, the Bucs are wildly improving, which pegs Bowles as the first HC on this list.
