Peyton Hillis outlook
by Ken Fernando
As a Cleveland Browns fan, I’m more used to individual success than team success. There have been a lot of one-year wonders for the Browns, but Peyton Hillis stands out the most.
Peyton was traded to the Browns from the Denver Broncos before the start of the 2010 season. In this single season alone, he became a Browns legend. In 16 games, he ran for 1,177 yards and 11 TDs. He caught 61 passes for 477 yards and a couple of TDs. Against the vaulted Patriots defense, he rushed for 184 yards and 2 TDs. In a game against Carolina, he rushed for 131 yards and 3 TDs. This performance helped him be nominated to the Madden NFL 12 cover vote. With 66% of the vote, Peyton Hillis was the cover athlete.
After this breakout season, he lasted one more year with the Browns and bounced to the Chiefs, Tampa Bay and Giants before retiring in 2015. He took too many hits for his liking, similar to Todd Gurley.
His life post-football has been relatively quiet. The major news that shocked fans happened in January 2023. While his kids were swimming in Penascola, a drowning incident almost occurred. Peyton saved his children but he nearly lost his life and had to be flown via helicopter to the hospital. Thankfully, he was able to recover and he lives a quiet but normal life.
Cheers to Peyton Hillis! He should come back as a RB coach!
