Dak can win CPOTY
By: Jake Rajala
Dak Prescott has all the tools and resume to win Comeback Player of The Year. He went 3-5 last season and threw 11 TDs to 8 ints. Nonetheless, he threw 36 TDs to nine ints in 2023. He still has that play-making ability in him, especially at 31 years old.
Dak almost won CPOTY in his career. He took second in CPOY voting in 2021! He had 37 touchdown passes in 2021, which was near his 2023 TD count. He also had 410 completions in each season, as well.
Not only did Dak light up the scoreboard with Ceedee Lamb in 2023, but he also has a new prolific weapon in George Pickens. Pickens missed three games last season, yet he still had 900 yards. He averaged a league-leading 18.1 YPC in 2023!
Make no mistake: the CPOY honors is a QB award! The last seven winners were QBs! Joe Burrow even won the award twice!
There wasn’t any freak injury to another talented QB last season, to set such a QB up for a comeback season. Dak had the worst of it.
If the CPOY wasn’t a QB, then I could see Aidan Hutchinson and Christian McCaffrey bringing home the awards. Vegas Insider places Hutch first and Dak second in the driver’s seat to win CPOY.
Another thing going for Dak is that he plays in the NFC Least. Washington was 23rd in PPG allowed, while the GMEN are 20th in PPG. There are plenty of opportunities to put up fireworks in the Boys divisional showdowns.
It’s very feasible for Dak to win NFL MVP and CPOY in the same season. We witnessed Adrian Peterson come close to accomplishing both feats, as he won MVP and took second in CPOY in the same season. Plus, it’s overdue for Dak to win an MVP.
