Best landing spots for Javonte Williams
By: Jake Rajala
Javonte Williams isn’t meant to be a starting running back. Yet, he’s in line to be the bell-cow RB for the Dallas Cowboys. I’d prefer to see the Boys exchange him and acquire a new RB1. With that said, I’m going to name a few potential landing spots for him.
San Francisco 49ers
Kyle Shanahan is a genius when it comes to drawing run plays. Shanny has also been famous for having many modest RBs on the roster. Plus, Christian McCaffrey has been injury prone or not meant to handle an infinite amount of touches.
Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s all in for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Everyone knows about the arrival of DK Metcalf, but that doesn’t mean the ship should stop there. Williams can be an upgrade at RB1 over Jaylen Warren. Kaleb Johnson can be in line for many carries, as well.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints cut Jamaal Williams, which opens up a hole at RB2. Kendre Miller can’t stay healthy for a full season, simple as that. Devin Neal was their sixth round draft pick in 2025. He isn’t quite ready to get several to a dozen touches in a game just yet.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs love to play musical chairs at RB. They need a permanent RB1 or RB2. Williams can be the 1B, over Kareem Hunt, who has a couple of seasons left at most. Isiah Pacheco hasn’t exactly been daunting. I believe Williams could be in line for a plethora of touches.
Green Bay Packers
Josh Jacobs is arguably a Top-5 RB, but that doesn’t mean he should handle a vast majority of the carries. The Pack need a back-up RB. MarShawn Lloyd hasn’t quite lifted off yet. He only had six carries for 15 yards last season.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have been serious about a Super Bowl run. They’ve brought in Deebo Samuel, Marshawn Lattimore, and they’ve kept Terry McLaurin and Bobby Wagner. Jayden Daniels really opens up the run game. Javonte Williams is dangerous when he gets to the second level.
New York Jets
The New York Jets ranked 31st in rushing YPG last season. Breece Hall isn’t quite a 1k yard running back yet. Braelon Allen also didn’t have sexy numbers last season, as he notched 334 rushing yards, 2 TDs, and averaged 3.6 YPC. Plus, a quality running game could keep Justin Fields from getting benched for the second straight season.
