Best QB targets for the Jets
By: Jake Rajala
The New York Jets have already experienced issues with Justin Fields. Not only is his health in question, but he’s struggled to be a consistent QB. With that said, I’m going to list five free agent QB targets for the Jets.
Teddy Bridgewater
Teddy Bridgewater isn’t a Pro Bowl-caliber QB, but he is arguably the most accurate QB on the free agent market. In 2021, he threw 18 TDs to 7 ints. He went 7-7 with a pedestrian Broncos squad. I won’t judge him harshly for his off-field issues.
Kirk Cousins
Let’s face it, the Falcons will ride with Michael Penix, as long as he’s okay on the field. They will be somewhat patient with his bumps on the road. Kirk Cousins needs to go somewhere where there are weapons in place for him.
Carson Wentz
Mr. Wentz is a Super Bowl winner, despite not being on the field for the big game. Wentz still has some gas left in the tank. In 2021, he recorded 18 TDs to 7 ints. He also went 9-8 in the same season.
Cooper Rush
Cooper Rush is 8-5 in his last three games. He threw 12 TDs to 5 ints last season. The Central Michigan alumni grad has been more successful than any other QB on this list over the past couple of seasons.
Mitchell Trubisky
It wasn’t long ago that Trubisky made the Pro Bowl or led his team to a 6-3 record. Trubisky has been content with being a superb QB2. I believe it’s time for him to get off the couch and be a QB1 again.
Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston is one of the most bubbly football figures.. Everyone loves his personality. Well, he also has a huge arm. We witnessed him start 5-2 in New Orleans.
Mac Jones
Let’s not forget that Mac Jones made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He went 2-5 last season. I’d like to see him in a better situation before writing him off. After all, he’s still 26 years old.
Fields could still very well be the future QB1 in the Big Apple. Although he may be a late bloomer in NY. It may take him a season to show he belongs there. In the mean time, one of the QBs listed above could take the keys to the offense in the short term.
