Replacements for Micah Parsons
By: Jake Rajala
It’s looking more plausible that Micah Parsons will not be a Dallas Cowboy. Just as Khalil Mack sought a trade early in his career, Parsons has requested to leave Dallas. With that said, I’m going to unfold five potential replacements for Parsons.
Matt Judon
Make no mistake: Matt Judon is the top free agent pass rusher. Judon is coming off a modest season. He recorded 5.5 sacks and several tackles for loss. In 2023, he notched four sacks and nine QB hits in four games! He is getting old, but I believe he has a few years left in him, just as Von Miller and Cameron Jordan are still playing.
Chase Young
Chase Young didn’t ball out last season, yet he got paid quite well. Young still has a lot of potential and plays that pop off the screen. He had 66 pressures, which was seventh in the league. He still isn’t quite untradeable. He slightly above average. The Saints could ship him out and still have Carl Granderson and Cam Jordan.
Jadeveon Clowney
The explosive well-rounded edge defender Jadeveon Clowney isn’t washed up. His 2023 season wasn’t too long ago, where he unleashed 9.5 sacks, 19 QB hits, and five pass deflections. He has had fairly down seasons, but I believe a team will get his best version, as he will have to prove his worth on a one year deal, I presume.
Montez Sweat
Montez Sweat is the third straight edge rusher on this list to unveil 5.5 sacks last season. Sweat is still a freakishly gifted pass rusher. In 2023, recorded 12.5 sacks, which was a career-high. I would have liked to see him have more snaps last season. He is only 28 years old, so he has a few more seasons of high-end play in him.
Trey Hendrickson
Parsons may want to play for the Bengals given that they have a better chance of going to the Super Bowl than the Boys. Meanwhile, the Boys may be able to afford to pay Hendrickson what he desires. It could be a win-win situation. Hendrickson is still an elite QB hunter (17.5 sacks in 2023 and 2024), so the Boys shouldn’t be dissapointed in turning to Hendrickson.
