Will the Jets get the first overall pick?

The New York Jets aren’t set up for a playoff run, to say the least. Matter of fact, I believe they are doomed and one of the favorites to get the first overall pick. With that said, I’m going to list three reasons the Jets could get the first overall pick.
- QB play
Let’s face it: the Jets don’t have a talented or stable QB chart. Fields is 14-30 in his career. He is also coming off a season where he was benched for Russell Wilson. He also has injury issues, partially due to his style of play. I believe that Tyrod Taylor will start by mid-season. Sadly, Taylor is 4-7 in his last 11 games.
- Possession
The Jets can’t get off the field. They ranked 27th in Time of Possession last season. Their defense can’t get any rest, whatsoever. Their offense can’t wear out their opponent. They need to lean on running back Breece Hall to not only help Fields shine, but to help the team control the clock and be better rested.
- Division
The Jets play in one of the more talented divisions in the league in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills were a Top-5 team last season and had a record of 13-4! The Miami Dolphins went 8-9, but Tua only played in 11 games last season. The report from the Patriots training camp is that Drake Maye has shined and improved in his second season. It won’t be easy for the Jets to squeeze in a couple of division victories.
The Jets could be in contention for a young, gifted QB in the 2026 draft. I believe the Fields experiment will be finished and they may even hire an offensive guru at HC.
