Is it time to start Daniel Jones?

I’ve been saying it all along: Anthony Richardson is not the guy. He threw 8 touchdowns to 12 interceptions last season. He is worse than the “dual-threat” QB Tim Tebow! Richardson helped prove my point in the Week 1 pre-season game. He threw a pass that should have been intercepted. Then he didn’t have any awareness as he took a hefty hit, which hurt his pinky.
This all leads to the question: should the Colts start Daniel Jones? I don’t believe he is good. However, I believe he’s the answer over Richardson.
Let’s not forget that Jones is still 28 years old, which is the same age as Sam Darnold. Darnold proved it’s never too late to dazzle, as he threw 35 touchdowns last season!
Jones didn’t play lights out on Saturday, but he did take care of the football. The Colts head coach Shane Steichen said the following about Jones, “I thought he did some really good things. Obviously had a nice touchdown pass that got called back, but made some good scramble plays, had some good throws, had some chunk plays”.
Richardson could be traded for a mid-round pick. If he struggles for the second straight season, he would likely be worth a late round pick.
I’d like to see Jones get first-team reps and then see a veteran join the squad. Perhaps Joe Flacco, who threw 12 TDs to 7 ints in six games last season for the Colts, could make a return.
In the end, I really foresee the Colts drafting a QB early in 2026. It’s sad that they don’t have a Pro Bowl-caliber QB. They are wasting the years of Jonathan Taylor. Shane Steichen will also have to find a way to escape this scenario.
