Sanders trade spots
By: Jake Rajala
Let’s be fair: Shedeur Sanders looked awful today. He took silly sacks and only had 14 passing yards. It is early in the process, but it wouldn’t be a complete shock if the Browns traded Sanders. After all, they carry Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel (who outplayed Sanders today). With that said, I’m going to unfold the best trade spots for Sanders.
Denver Broncos
Sean Payton was optimistic about Sanders’s ability in the draft process. He even didn’t like that teams were passing up on Sanders. Plus, Sanders and Bo Nix have similar attributes. They can throw it well off-play action and win with their legs.
New Orleans Saints
Tyler Shough has played below average this offseason thus far. The Saints draft Shough over Sanders. Perhaps Sanders can prove they should have drafted him above Tyler. I also don’t love the Saints QB3 Jake Haener, who has gotten few reps this preseason.
Miami Dolphins
Mike McDaniel loves to make blockbuster trades (and pull people out of retirement). Perhaps he can reel in a shiny QB. Let’s also not forget that Tua Tagovailoa has had injury issues, as he missed six games last season and four games in 2022.
San Francisco 49ers
Kyle Shanahan worked wonders with RG3. Of course, RG3 and Sanders are explosive with the ball in their hands. Purdy has missed games, too. He missed a game in 2023 and two games last season. I believe that Sanders has more up-side than their current QB2, Mac Jones.
Kansas City Chiefs
Similar to Tua and Purdy, Patrick Mahomes has missed game time. Sure, he has only missed a game or two. Well, that’s a big deal if they want to win as many games as possible for the first seed! Andy Reid could squeeze out the potential in Sanders, too.
The sky isn’t falling for Sanders. Although, there is a lot of pressure on all the Browns QBs, because there are four quality QBs on the depth chart. If Sanders gets traded or cut, he could still eliminate rookie mistakes and be a Pro Bowl QB at some point in his career.
