Mark Sanchez reflection
By: Jake Rajala
Mark Sanchez was once seen as a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback. He went 8-7 as a rookie and then 11-5 as a sophomore. He even led his team to the AFC Championship. He carries four playoff wins on his belt. Sexy Rexy was his coach at the same. You may remember the Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis on the roster, as well.
With that said, Sanchez took the opposite path that you would expect from a QB. He started off superb and then went downhill. He ate hot dogs on the sideline and ran into the butt of his offensive lineman.
In 2013, he suffered a significant shoulder injury late in a 2013 preseason game. It was silly that he was in that situation. He never fully recovered after that mishap.
After 2012, he no longer played in 15 or more contests!
In 2014, he went 4-4 with the Eagles as a backup. He then went 0-2 in 2015. In 2018, he was on his last legs. He merely went 0-1 with Washington.
Sanchez will go down as an average game manager. His playoff success defers him from being a bust. I would have enjoyed to see him have more weapons. I believe he had some potential with Philly, but he wasn’t quite the same QB after injury.
Currently, he serves as a football analyst for Fox. He joins a list of QBs that arguably better as analysts than football players. David Carr, RG3, and Tim Tebow are also on the list.
He has made positive comments toward Jets QB Justin Fields. Perhaps we will see Sanchez return to the Big Apple as a coach in the future.
