Chiefs at Chargers: 5 bold predictions

Chiefs at Chargers

By: Jake Rajala

The Kansas City Chiefs will square off against the Los Angeles Chargers. Here’s the exciting part: they will play in Brazil. With that said, I will take a unique angle by unfolding 5 bold predictions for the game.

Patrick Mahomes doesn’t throw a touchdown

Patty Mahomes was clutch last season, but he wasn’t a stat machine. He only threw for 26 touchdowns, which was ninth in the league. He will miss Rashee Rice for the first six games. He also lost DeAndre Hopkins and Travis Kelce is on his last legs. I believe the Chargers defense with Derwin James and Khalil Mack will wreak havoc.

Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt is the bowling ball. He will be leaned on in the redzone. Hunt isn’t washed up quite yet. Hunt registered 728 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns, while missing a few games last season. Hunt is on the verge of being washed up, but I believe he has a superb Week 1 showcase in him.

Khalil Mack gets a pair of sacks

Khalil Mack unleashed 17 sacks in 2023 and then took a nosedive and only recorded four last season. There won’t be any lingering injuries holding him back right now. He also won’t have Joey Bosa hogging any sacks. I could see him getting a pair of sacks against a Chiefs offense that will pass the ball a lot, as they ranked second in passing attempts last season.

Chris Jones doesn’t get a sack or TFL

Jim Harbaugh is one of the best football coaches right now. He won a National Championship with Michigan and brought the 49ers to the Super Bowl. I foresee him phasing out All-Pro DT Chris Jones. He will draw up more double blocks on him and fewer running back draws. Hence, I don’t believe he will get a sack or TFL.

Justin Herbert throws four touchdowns

Justin Herbert has drawn rave reviews from Harbaugh. Herbert really grew last season, as he only threw three interceptions, while throwing 23 touchdowns. I love that they brought back Keenan Allen. I believe he will be the x-factor and catch a pair of touchdowns,
