Panthers WR group
By: Jake Rajala
The Carolina Panthers traded undrafted WR Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings. It’s a homecoming for Thielen. They briefly said goodbye to Hunter Renfrow, but they decided to bring him back. The Panthers carry Renfrow, Tetairoa McMillan, and Xavier Legette.
Renfrow has drawn impressive reflections this offseason. The prominent CB Jaycee Horn has said that he’s uncoverable. He is similar to Julian Edelman with his size and quickness. Thankfully, the Panthers re-signed him before another team scooped him up. Renfrow had his best season in 2021, where he unleashed 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns. That punched his ticket to the Pro Bowl. He didn’t shine in 2022 and 2023, then he sat out in 2024. He’s looking to shake the rust off and be one of the best WR3s in the league.
Tetairoa has been nothing short of terrific. He’s made contested catches in the preseason. He’s shown his rare combination of speed and size. He reminds me a lot of Mike Evans or DK Metcalf. He has a brief hamstring injury right now, but he should be okay for Week 1.
Xavier Legette was taken in the first round in 2024. He didn’t ball out last season. He only notched 497 yards and four touchdowns. It’s safe to say he needs to have a bounceback season if he wants to even be on the roster come 2026.
In the end, the Panthers have a quality WR group. I’d say it’s a Top-10 group. Legette and McMillan have first round potential. As for Renfrow, he can be an 600-800 yard WR, which is admirable for a WR3. I expect McMillan to be an OROY candidate, too. It should help McMillan and the other WRs that they play in an NFC South division that doesn’t have elite pass defenses, too.
