Key takeaways from the Bears-Vikings contest
By: Jake Rajala
The Minnesota Vikings travelled down the road to Chicago, where they battled the Bears. They won a dog-fight by the score of 27-24. With that said, I’m going to unfold five takeaways from the contest.
The Vikings RB group shined
The Vikings have a tough RB duo with Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones. Mason notched 68 yards on 15 carries. Aaron Jones only had 23 yards, but he hauled in 44 yards and a touchdown. The Vikings need their RB group to continue to shine, as they have a young QB.
Where is the love for TEs?
The starting TEs for the Bears and Vikings combined for four receptions. It wasn’t glorious, to say the least. Each young QB needs to target their friendly TE more, especially on early downs and in the red zone.
Adam Thielen, where art thou?
The Vikings made the trade to bring back Adam Thielen. Well, he didn’t prove them right so far. He did haul in a catch for a 2 point conversion, but he didn’t catch anything besides that. Justin Jefferson only hauled in 4 grabs, which is somewhat uncharacteristic, as well.
Caleb Williams is a stud
Caleb Williams had a phenomenal first half. He had a pair of touchdowns. He led the Bears in rushing yards (with 58 yards). Williams looked more comfortable in the pocket, which is great news, given he was sacked the most in the league last season.
Nashon Wright was the man
Cornerback Nashon Wright wasn’t meant to be a Week 1 starter, but injuries forced him to get in the lineup. He had a beautiful interception where he undercut the WR and brought it back to the house. He didn’t struggle or get picked on.
The Bears and Vikings had a thrilling game. It’s what you would expect from a divisional game. The Vikings appeared dead early in the game, but they marched back with J.J. McCarthy leading the way. I can’t wait to see each QB grow this season and a gutsy, second game between these two squads.
