Bryce Young vs Spencer Rattler
By: Jake Rajala
Bryce Young is a former first overall pick. Hence, expectations are high for the 5’10 quarterback. He flashed excellence at the end of last season, as he unleashed 10 touchdowns over the past three games.
In Young’s first two seasons, he has unleashed 5,280 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, to 19 ints.
Young vs Saints
In Young’s first game against the Saints last season, he threw 13 completions on 30 attempts, 161 yards, and two ints. In his second meeting against the Saints, he threw 16 passes on 26 attempts, 171 yards, one TD, to one int.
In Week 1, Young didn’t silence his haters. He only threw 1 TD to 2 interceptions. Many are wondering if it was wise to trade away Adam Thielen, who was Young’s top weapon last season. PFF handed a Week 1 grade of 71.1 to Young, which was 19th among QBs.
Young is going up against a young QB by the name of Spencer Rattler. Rattler has arm talent that’s off the charts, but he’s still developing.
Rattler went 0-6 last season. He threw 4 TDs to 5 ints. He didn’t scare any defense. He also didn’t play against the Panthers last season.
I was impressed with Rattler’s outing against the Arizona Cardinals last week. He only threw 214 passing yards and didn’t record a touchdown, but he placed a perfect, catchable pass to Juwan Johnson in the red zone with less than 10 seconds remaining, but Juwan dropped it. In Week 1, PFF gave Rattler a grade of 77.3, which is 12th among QBs.
I honestly believe that Rattler has the edge over Young. Rattler hasn’t only played better in the first week, but Rattler has looked more impressive in the entire offseason. It isn’t a fluke. Furthermore, Rattler has a better offensive line and weapons. He also has a more opportunistic, helpful defense. I feel better about Rattler going against the Panthers defense than Young going against the Saints defense.
Ultimately, I’m very excited to see each QB go head to head for many more seasons, assuming they can play just well enough to keep their QB1 spot.
