A.J. Brown vs DeVonta Smith

Eagles WR outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the brightest wide receiver duos with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Brown came over from the Tennessee Titans in 2022. As for DeVonta Smith, he was drafted by Philly in 2021.

Each Eagles WR is versatile and can shine in space. Jalen Hurts doesn’t mind when his stats jump after he throws a quick screen to one of his wideouts, and it goes the distance. He lost Kellen Moore, but his WR duo should remain intact for at least five more years.

Brown made the Pro Bowl with Philly in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he was given second-team All-Pro honors. I thought he was marvelous last season. The problem was that he missed four games.

Up to this point in the 2025 season, PFF has given Brown a grade of 70.3. It may come as a surprise, but he’s just beginning to shine. He had a career high 109 yards last week. His second best performance this season was 27 yards.

Let’s not doubt Brown’s future. After all, he is an enormous football nerd! We all know he loves to read on the sidelines.

Smith isn’t quite a reader or someone who consumes 5k calories a day. Nonetheless, he is still gifted and fearless.

Smith had 1,196 yds and several TDs in his second season. This was his most productive season. Last season, he missed four games (and made 843 yards). He most certainly would have eclipsed 1k yards if he played 17 games.

The Eagles have one of the best WR tandems in the league. I’d say Brown is a Top-3 WR, while Smith is a Top-15 WR. I believe Brown is still in his prime at 28 years old. Of course, Smith is still learning to improve his craft and size at 26 years old.

PFF dubbed Brown as the best WR this past offseason. I’d say that Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson have the slight edge over him.
