Ceedee Lamb vs Michael Irvin
By: Jake Rajala
The Dallas Cowboys have been gifted with elite wide receivers for a long time. We witnessed Michael Irvin win a few Super Bowls and smash franchise records. He became a Hall of Famer. Ceedee Lamb is the latest Boys WR to be on a terrific path.
With that said, how exactly has Ceedee been in comparison to Irvin?
In Lamb’s first five seasons, Lamb has notched 6,339 yards. He’s also had 38 TDs in his young career. After his rookie season, Lamb has made the Pro Bowl in each season.
In 2025 thus far, Lamb has recorded 16 grabs for 222 yds. Sadly, he suffered an ankle injury that has held him out of action as of late.
Irvin struggled to lift off his career. He notched 4,364 yards in his first five seasons. He had 27 TDs in his first five games, too.
Let’s discuss their best single season performance. He recorded 1,523 yds in his fourth season. This was the most receiving yds anybody had in that season. Although he topped that outing in 1995 by way of 1,603 yds.
So, what has been Lamb’s best single season performance?
Lamb has had a season of 1,749 yards. That’s quite a feat. He also had 135 catches in the same season. Lamb has been named first team All-Pro once already. Irvin was only named first team in once in his career. I foresee Lamb getting first team AP at least a few more times.
Obviously, there is a massive difference between the two. Irvin, also known as the playmaker, has won three Super Bowls! It would be more easy to say Lamb is better due to being more prolific in the regular season. Well, that’s not close to being true. If Lamb could even win one SB ring in his career, while earning a “few” first team AP nods, I’d give the edge to Lamb, however.
Super Bowl titles aren’t everything. Calvin Johnson failed to win a SB, but I believe he deserves more praise than Irvin. Jerry Rice has also won 3 Super Bowls, but he has had 10 first-team All-Pro seasons! Yes, you read that correctly.
I believe there’s other Boys WRs that deserve to be in the “conversation” as the best Cowboys WRs. Drew Pearson, Terrell Owens and Dez Bryant are other Boys legends.
I’d love to see George Pickens join the conversation as years go on. He’s a Pro Bowl-caliber WR and he has potential to be the best WR2 in the league.
Without Micah Parsons, it will be a challenge to win a Super Bowl. They are 31st in PPG allowed, which is way too many points given up for a playoff contender. We’ve witnessed Drew Brees lead the league in passing yards, but fail to have a winning record, due to his defense leaving him out to dry.
I believe the Boys will need to wait for another generational talent on their defense, notably on their front seven. I respect their secondary as it stands.
I hope the Boys can defeat Philly for Jerry Jones to have some confidence in his roster. Lamb can have 200 yards, but it takes a team to win a Lombardi trophy.
