What does Tyreek Hill’s injury mean?

Tyreek Hill’s injury outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The blistering fast Tyreek Hill was voted the NFL’s best player a couple of years ago. He lost a bit of that magic, but he’s been an elite player, no doubt. Well, he suffered a dislocated knee in Week 4, and he’s done for the season.

Hill is 31 years old, so he’s suffering this brutal injury late in his career. It won’t be easy for him to be a Top-5 WR due to his injury and age afterward.

The Phins nicely signed Cedrick Wilson, who was on the Saints practice squad. Robby Chosen signed with the Commanders. He would have otherwise been a candidate to sign with MIA.

At least there was some good timing. Darren Waller played his first game with the Phins in Week 4. Furthermore, he hauled in 2 TDs! I would have liked to see him get more than three catches. It will be hard for him to almost have a TD per catch in each game. He only had 16 reps, but I expect that improve. Jonnu Smith finished as the fourth best TE with Tua last season.

Jaylen Waddle’s role should be increased. Let’s not ignore that he already has had at least five targets per contest. Waddle needs to get more action in the redzone. He only had 2 TDs this season, after recording only 2 in the entire 2024 season!

The person who is most hurt by Hill’s injury is none other than Mike McDaniel. He has been on the hot seat with Hill. Without him, he will most certainly struggle to win and retain his gig. After all, the Phins just got their first win, which came against a win-less Jets team.

McDaniel simply lived on the success of Hill. It will be hard to have another elite weapon that can maximize his scheme. Hence, it may be wise to have a new system and a new head coach in the near future.

The Phins need their defense to really pick up the slack. The Phins are 26th in PPG allowed, which is far from sexy.

In the end, Hill should be a Hall of Famer, even if he has played his last down in the league. He has a Super Bowl ring and he’s been one of the best deep threats in NFL history.

I’d imagine that the Phins draft a new WR if they still have McDaniel as the head coach. They need new fireworks in their offense, to say the least.
