Flacco a buy?
By: Jake Rajala
The verdict is: Joe Flacco is a baller. It doesn’t matter if Flacco is 40 because he’s not a scrub. The former Super Bowl MVP recorded a modest 18.76 points in Week 6, and he managed to play better last TNF by bringing home 25.98 points. The impressive aspect is that he was very recently brought in to replace Jake Browning (who was an absolute dud) and be the starting QB. Well, that didn’t slow him down from knocking off Aaron Rodgers, T.J. Watt, and the Steelers.
Given that Flacco has played lights out, the question is: Should Flacco be a buy?
Absolutely.
Flacco is properly utilizing Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Chase led the league in receptions, yards, and touchdowns at the WR spot last season. It isn’t overly difficult for a QB like Flacco to throw to Chase who gets a lot of cushion and space to work with. Chase showed that even Jalen Ramsey couldn’t cover him on an island. Chase had a TD overturned and then he caught a TD on the very next play. There isn’t a lot of QBs and WRs that have that level of trust and confidence to try and score a TD together when the defense knows what’s coming.
If Flacco is on a team and not in the waivers, I believe it’s certainly wise to reel in Flacco. If Flacco averages around 20 points after a few more games, I would throw a second round pick with a modest QB in return. I wouldn’t throw in a first round pick due to Flacco’s age.
The Browns could surely have a Top-5 offense moving forward, but that’s not the issue. The problem is that the Bengals defense needs to improve its pass rush. Trey Hendrickson is an elite sack artist, but he needs someone on the other side getting home. It should even be noted that Hendrickson could be traded, which would really hurt their playoff chances.
Flacco faces the Jets, Bears, a bye week, and the Steelers NYJ gives up the ninth most PPG to QBs. Chase should be able to really shine against the Bears for Flacco. Obviously, Joe cool should light up the Steelers in their second showdown.
