Sleepers to avoid
By: Jake Rajala
There are plenty of underrated players who are rising at this point in the season. Some players come off IR, or some players improve their chemistry to unleash havoc. With that said, I’m going to talk about sleepers to avoid!
Cade Otton
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cade Otton had 10 points two weeks ago and 12 points last week. I’m not sold on the Bucs TE, who had 8.9 combined points from the first four weeks combined. Furthermore, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Emeka Egbuka have been injured, but they are returning within the next couple of games. Otton has a PFF grade of 53.3, which is 35th out of 36 TEs.
Spencer Rattler
The fifth round pick in 2024, Spencer Rattler, has flexed impressive deep throw accuracy, but that hasn’t translated to a 300 yard passing game this season. He only has one game over two touchdowns, as well. Juwan Johnson has struggled over the past couple of games. I’d like to see the Saints bring in a red zone threat this off-season. I believe they need to take the training wheels off Spencer and let him risk more deep shots.
Houston Texans
Let’s be honest: the Houston Texans have a lot of talent on defense. They have All-Pro DE Danielle Hunter and Derek Stingley Jr. They had 14 points two weeks ago and 11 points last week. I still feel concered about their upcoming schedule, as they face off against the Seahawks, 49ers, and Broncos in their next three games. They may revert to not scoring double digit points for a few straight games.
Sterling Shepard
Not only is Sterling 32 years old, but he’s been on a mini-roller coaster. He went from 12 points to four points, to 11.9 points, to 7.1 points over the prior four contests. He has failed to shine without any of the alphas at the WR spot. Shepard can give you four points if you really need it.
Marvin Mims
The Denver Broncos WR Marvin Mims has had a 10 point game and a 20 point game this season. Nonetheless, his other games are quite low scoring. The only bright side of Mims is that he’s 23 years old. Another concern about Marvin is that Sean Payton loves to spread it around to many WRs. Of course, Courtland Sutton is the exception.
