Will Tua be benched soon?

It would be an understatement to say that the young Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, has been a dud from the entirety of 2025. He has even been a disaster in his post-game interviews. His interviews can be forgivable, but that doesn’t give his performance on the field a pass. There are rumors that he even could be traded. I wouldn’t expect a team to reel him in with his hefty contract. So, the ultimate question is: should Tua be benched?
I honestly would like to see the Phins ride out the season with him. This is for a couple of reasons. First, I don’t believe the door should be completely shut on Tua for how he performs between the white lines. After all, he threw four touchdowns two weeks ago. He has five games with at least two touchdowns. He also has a 67.9 completion percentage, which is admirable.
The second reason that it’s not the best path to bench Tua is that they won’t have a superior QB2. Zach Wilson has never shown to be a modest QB. Wilson has unleashed more ints than touchdowns in his career. He didn’t even play in 2024.
There may be an escape route for the Phins and Tua. Perhaps the Phins could trade Tua for a QB like Spencer Rattler. Tua would get a fresh start, and Kellen Moore would get a more accurate QB than Rattler or Tyler Shough. Rattler has more arm strength than Tua, so he could properly utilize the speed demons Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill deep down the field.
The HI native should rest knowing that he is having a putrid season, but it doesn’t mean he can’t come back better and seek revenge on the whole league. He is the same QB that led the league in completion percentage in 2024 and passing yards in 2023.
Perhaps Tua could come back next season with a healthy Tyreek Hill and a head coach with a massive chip on their shoulders and win CPOTY. This could all be a bad dream for them.
