Could the Cardinals trade Kyler Murray?
By: Jake Rajala
Kyler Murray has been on a roller coaster over his Arizona Cardinals career. He has a 38-48 career record. He has two Pro Bowls to his name. Well, he has really struggled to get on a path of winning as of late. He went 8-9 last season and it seemed he was going to take a step up this season. Well, he has only thrown 6 TDs to 3 ints. He hasn’t played lights out. To make matters worse, he has been injured, yet again. He only played in 11 games in 2022 and eight games in 2023.
There is no secret: Jacoby Brissett has replaced Kyler, and he’s done an admirable job. Brissett has outplayed Murray. He’s thrown 8 TDs to 1 int. He has thrown at least 2 TDs in his past four games. Brissett is also 32 years old, so he has many seasons left in the tank.
From a fantasy angle, Brissett is cooking. He’s thrown for 21, 19, 25, and 19 points thus far. Meanwhile, Murray has failed to score more than 20 point in his five games. It’s dreadful.
Brissett has done a better job of utilizing Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride than Murray, to say the least. He is a sharp, aware QB. He reminds me of the sage Phillip Rivers and the young Drake Maye, as they can stand in the pocket and make accurate throws down the field.
The question regarding a potential trade is: What could the Cardinals get in return?
I would say that Murray is worth a second round pick. He has been all over the map, but he still has a lot of speed as a dual threat QB. Furthermore, he is still 28 years old. The 2026 NFL QB group isn’t overly daunting, as well.
I believe the Pittsburgh Steelers would be a dream fit. He could replace Aaron Rodgers, who will most likely retire after this season. The Steelers have experience with Russell Wilson, who is a poor man’s version of Murray. The New Orleans Saints would also make sense. If Tyler Shough doesn’t continue to play at his Week 10 version, the Saints will really need a QB. They could acquire Murray and then build around the QB spot, such as OL or RB.
