Packers vs Lions: 5 things we learned

Packers vs Lions: deep reflections

By: Jake Rajala

The Green Bay Packers travelled to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions. Both teams have a winning record and an opportunity to make the playoffs, whether it be their division (NFC North) or a wildcard spot. With that said, the Packers had the bigger chip on their shoulder and won the game by a score of 31-24. With that said, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the showdown.

Jahmyr Gibbs, where art thou?

After running over 200 yards last week, Jahmyr Gibbs was nowhere to be found on Thanksgiving. He recorded 20 carries for 68 yards, with only three catches for 18 yards. Gibbs appears not to be the second coming of Barry Sanders quite yet.

Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons was rightfully Tom Brady’s LFG player of the game. Parsons had 2.5 sacks and eight tackles in the game. He has 12.5 sacks on the season. There’s still plenty of time for him to follow in Reggie White’s footsteps by being the next Packer defensive lineman to win DPOY. It’s at least safe to say the Pack have won the Parsons trade thus far.

Charles Woodson did win DPOY in 2009, but he played in the secondary.

Jameson Williams

The former first round pick Jameson Williams was from another planet in the game. He unleashed several grabs for 144 yards and a touchdown. He had 10 targets. It’s clear he’s picking up more targets with Amon St. Brown out of the lineup right now.

Jordan Love

Jordan Love is the ultimate darkhorse at MVP right now. Love is coming off a game where he unleashed four touchdown passes. He is eighth in passing touchdowns. Love is also seventh in passing yards. There is only one QB with more passing yards and few ints. This happens to be Matthew Stafford.

Dontayvion Wicks

Wicks came out of nowhere on the critical NFC North showdown. He unleashed two touchdowns and 94 yards receiving. I’m not saying he’s the next Davante Adams, but he can climb to be a reliable WR3. Wicks has 307 yards on the season. He has missed a couple of games and suffered from pedestrian performances, too.
