Will Thomas go into the Saints Hall of Fame?

By: Jake Rajala

Michael Thomas was once one of the best wide receivers in the league. He was sure-handed, explosive, and had a high football IQ. The Hall of Famer Drew Brees has raved about his ability and team first attitude.

Well, things have changed. Not only did Thomas lose Drew Brees, but he lost himself. Cantguardmike had four straight 1k+ yard seasons. Then he recorded 438 yards and zero touchdowns in 2020. Furthermore, he was injured and sat out in 2021. In 2022, he played in three games and unleashed 171 yards and three touchdowns. He couldn’t bounce back in 2023, where he registered 448 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.

For some odd reason, Thomas opted not to run it back and make more Pro Bowls and divisional victories. With that said, a fascinating question is: Has Thomas done enough to make it into the Saints Hall of Fame?

We all know Thomas won Offensive Player of the Year and broke the reception record. So, did he play at the top of the world often? Well, not exactly. Besides his magical season, he only made first team AP once.

Well, the path laid out by a player by the name of Joe Horn, shows Thomas has a real shot at being in the Saints Hall of Fame. Like Thomas, he only made four Pro Bowls and has four seasons of 1k+ yards. He doesn’t even have any AP type seasons.

You don’t have to be at the top of the mountain to make it into the Saints Hall of Fame. Being consistent at a semi-high level can get the job done. Marques Colston made it into the Saints Hall of Fame. He had eight seasons of at least 900 yards. He also finished with 72 touchdowns. This includes winning the Super Bowl.

In the end, I fully expect Thomas to be into the Saints HOF. Sure, I’d love to see him return to the Saints, just like old times. Nonetheless, he has been exceptional, even if it wasn’t for ages.
