Will Ingram land in the Saints Hall of Fame?
By: Jake Rajala
Mark Ingram was a maniac in college, as he won the Heisman trophy. Ingram was a first round pick with the New Orleans Saints. Cameron Jordan was also taken in the first round in the 2011 Draft.
Ingram was a bit of a late bloomer in the league. In his first three seasons, he didn’t earn a Pro Bowl. Finally, he unleashed havoc in year four and ran angrily for 964 yards and nine touchdowns. He accomplished this in 13 games. He registered his second Pro Bowl in 2017, as he notched 1,124 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
Ingram was a 1B to Alvin Kamara, who was the 1A. After Ingram played eight seasons in NOLA, he went to the Baltimore Ravens. In his first season in Baltimore, he ran for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns! That was the last time he would run for over a few hundred yards.
With that said, a pivotal question arises: Is Ingram worth going into the Saints Hall of Fame?
It’s worth comparing him to Deuce McAllister. Deuce only has two Pro Bowl nods with the Saints, yet he’s in the Saints Hall of Fame. Deuce only had 49 career rushing touchdowns. Ingram had 50 rushing touchdowns with the Saints. Clearly, it’s very close. Deuce has a season of at least 400 yards receiving, while Ingram had two seasons of at least 400 yards receiving.
Ingram will most likely not go into Canton, but I believe he deserves to go into Saints heaven, also known as the Saints Hall of Fame. The only wish I had for Ingram was that I would have liked to see him reach the Super Bowl. Other than that, he proved the Saints right by being one of their 2011 first round picks.
