Will Taysom Hill go in the Saints HOF?
By: Jake Rajala
Taysom Hill is one of the most exciting players to watch. It’s even been well said that Hill has more fun than any player. This makes it easier for Hill to battle adversity. He started out as a potent figure on kickoff. He even made plays on punt block!
Hill progressed into a QB and WR. He ran wildcat plays for Sean Payton and was a mismatch nightmare out in the slot. He has moved around quite a bit, but he has also been productive. Hill became the first player in postseason history to finish with 50 yards passing, 50 rushing yards, and 25 receiving yards.
Let’s not forget that Hill, who can squat 600 pounds, has been hard to defend at the QB spot. He can shed tackles and even jump over defenders. Hill is 7-2 in two seasons at QB. I would have enjoyed to see him get a crack at starting at QB for a team. The future Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees also believes Hill should have been a starting QB. Sean Payton has even compared Hill to Steve Young. I don’t agree with that comparison, as I wouldn’t say Hill has Hall of Fame potential. Nonetheless, he clearly has rich potential at QB.
So, the ultimate question is: Should Hill go in the Hall of Fame?
I honestly believe he should be. Hill has left everything on the field in playoffs. He has also carried the Saints in key games as a swiss army knife. He has also been fantastic for many seasons. It wasn’t like he was Terrelle Pryor, where he was an x factor for one or two seasons. Hill has been hard to defend for at least five seasons.
Hill is 35 years old and he’s still hard to combat. I believe Hill can build up his resume for a couple of more seasons. I’d like to see him more at QB and TE than special teams. They have to be careful in keeping him healthy at this stage in his career. Many TEs can play in their late 30s, so perhaps he can do so, as well.
