Reflecting on the Buccaneers-Falcons contest
By: Jake Rajala
Right after the New Orleans Saints had their way with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Bucs. Well, I’m going to unfold five things we learned from the Buccaneers-Falcons showdown.
Holy Kyle Pitts
Kyle Pitts went from a stain on the PFF rankings to a Tony Gonzalez 2.0. All Pitts did was wreak havoc against the Bucs. He recorded 11 grabs for 166 yards and three touchdowns! He made a fantasy owner very happy in the playoff season.
The Falcons DL
The Falcons DL showed up when it counted. David Onymeta had a terrific tackle for loss against the Bucs around the 2 minute mark. They also had a key sack to make the Bucs punt the ball back to Atlanta. They don’t miss Grady Jarrett too much.
Mike Evans picks up where he left off
Mike Evans looked like a future Hall of Famer in the NFC South battle. He had a very nice catch in a 50/50 ball. He finished with six catches for 132 yards. His efforts couldn’t save Baker from collapsing in the fourth quarter.
The Bijan Robinson show
Bijan Robinson had 175+ total yards against the Falcons. He also reached the end zone. He deserved to be the player of the game. Bijan sits in second for total yards on the season. He is making a case as the best Falcons RB of all time.
Buccaneers pass rush
The Bucs pass rush couldn’t get home against the Falcons. Haason Reddick had the lone sack on the day. Perhaps they could benefit from Jason Pierre Paul, who is still on the Bucs practice squad. I’d love to see Vita Vea, who is a lead blocker on offense, get home to the QB in the pivotal contest.
As a Saints fan, I hate to admit it, but the Bucs still have a real shot to win the division or make the playoffs as a wildcard. This game will sting for Baker Mayfield and company, but they can regroup and possibly win out.
