The outlook for Quinn Ewers

It’s been widely reported: Tua Tagovailoa is benched. Yes, I repeat, the former highly cherished Alabama quarterback has faced a setback. I don’t really like it. Mike McDaniel is throwing Tua under the bus. McDaniel has struggled to beat winning teams in his career. Plus, Tua has gone 5-2 in their last several starts.
I also believe Tua will be their starting QB in 2026. After all, he led the league in passing yards in 2023 with 4,624. Furthermore, he led the league in completion percentage with 72.9 in 2024. It could harm his confidence by sitting him for the remainder of this season.
So, who exactly is his replacement, Quinn Ewers?
Well, he was their seventh round draft pick in 2025. He comes out of Ohio State and Texas. All he did last season was throw 31 touchdowns! Hopefully, he has some Brock Purdy magic, who was a seventh round pick, as well. He had a total score of 74 at the NFL combine. This placed him as the seventh best QB. So, he’s not a slouch.
He will have one hand behind his back with Tyreek Hill not playing. Tua was admirable with connecting to Jaylen Waddle and Darren Waller in the endzone. Hopefully, he can make some magic to them again. Devon Achane will also be heavily leaned on. He has 1,186 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on the season. That makes him third in the NFL in rushing yards.
I’d love to see Tua have more competition at the QB spot this offseason. Perhaps the Phins could draft a new QB in the second or third round, versus burning a first round pick on a QB, or making a risky move by leaning on a seventh round pick or UDFA QB.
