What to expect from Josh Johnson

Josh Johnson reflection

The tragic news is out: Marcus Mariota is out for the Christmas showdown against the Dallas Cowboys. The Commanders are down to their third QB. The 2024 rookie sensation (Daniels) is done for the season. Mariota could be back for their final game against Philly.

With that said, a fascinating question surrounds Johnson: What should we expect from him?

He hasn’t exactly been sexy in his career. After all, he is 1-8. He has been slinging the rock since 2009. Yes, you read that correctly. He is 39 years old, which people forget. He’s only a few years younger than Aaron Rodgers. Perhaps he will play into his 40s!

The plus side of Johnson is his ability to make plays with his legs. He is sort of an old version of RG3, who happened to play with Washington. He can escape the pocket when it breaks down and use the read option nicely, alongside Derrick Henry.

I would still rather see a dual threat QB like Tyrod Taylor or even Cam Newton have the keys to the Washington offense, as a QB3. Newton is a few years younger than Taylor even.

Hopefully, Daniels can return soon in the offseason. We’re talking about the Washington QB1 that led his squad to the NFC Championship last season. They have quality pieces around their QB, such as Deebo Samuel, Scary Terry, and even Chris Rodriguez Jr. is a stud.

The Eaglels don’t look like the bully that they were once. They can be a real threat to be the NFC East Champions with a fresh QB group.
