Why Jarrett Stidham can succeed
By: Jake Rajala
Jarrett Stidham is most likely not Tom Brady or Steve Young. He is stepping up to the plate, but nobody should expect him to throw four touchdowns and someone make a movie about him. With that said, I believe he can still succeed and help his squad reach the Super Bowl. Hence, I’m going to unfold a few reasons why.
- Screen game
Nobody loves screens more than Sean Payton. It’s not overly hard to be consistently good at throwing screens. Not only does Payton throw lots of WR screens, but he also throws a lot of screens to his RBs and TEs. As a die hard Saints fan, I’ve seen him convert numerous double TE screens or even a screen to a fullback.
- Defense
Payton knew who he wanted on defense when he got the Broncos job. This would be none other than Vance Joseph. Just as Payton had Gregg Williams in his Super Bowl winning season, he obtained another hyper-aggressive DC in this potential Super Bowl winning season. The Broncos ranked first in sacks, fourth in PPG allowed, and second in YPG allowed this season.
- Home field
Last but not least, the Broncos have a serious advantage in possessing “home-field”. It will be far from easy for Drake Maye to walk in there and make play calls and adjustments at the line of scrimmage. The Broncos also had a bye week, so they are more rested than any other AFC team.
The Broncos last won their Super Bowl with a very old, broken down Peyton Manning. He’s a Hall of Famer, but he was blatantly washed up in the Super Bowl against the Panthers. They really relied on their defense, particularly Von Miller. In 2026, the Broncos need Nik Bonitto and the rest of front seven to make life miserable for the Patriots and Super Bowl foe.
