Best landing spots for Josh McDaniels
By: Jake Rajala
Josh McDaniels has arguably been the most impressive offensive coordinator over the past several years. Under McDaniels, Tom Brady won multiple MVP awards and Super Bowls. Well, McDaniels proved that Brady didn’t carry him, In 2025-2026, Drake Maye is an MVP candidate. Furthermore, they are going back to the Super Bowl. With that said, I believe McDaniels, who has struggled as a head coach, will return to being an HC. Hence, I’m going to lay out the best landing spots for him in 2026 and beyond. Yes, that means I’m going to list 2027 spots for him, too.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns will be patient with any HC they bring on board. I believe McDaniels is the perfect QB whisperer for Shedeur Sanders, who recently was added to the AFC Pro Bowl list. On defense, the Browns have Myles Garrett and Mason Graham on the DL. McDaniels is also used to playing in cold weather.
Arizona Cardinals
Kyler Murray is broken. They need someone to step in and fix Murray. He still has impressive accuracy and dual-threat ability. They just need someone to get the screen game going with Marvin Harrison Jr. and James Conner. They need more QB designed runs, too. McDaniels will be somewhat out of his comfort zone, however, as he hasn’t really worked with dual-threat QBs.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield has off the charts arm talent. He also has superb weapons in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Eemeka Ekbuka. There isn’t any reason that they should be struggling, yet they are. I really believe the Saints and the Falcons are the two best teams in the South. I expect Todd Bowles to get fired somewhat early in 2026.
Cincinnati Bengals
Cincy has the best QB-WR duo in the league with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. They need to find a better backup QB, as Burrow has already been injured a few times in his career. I’d love to see them bring in a stud TE, as McDaniels loved the vertical passing game to Gronk. I believe McDaniels could bring the Bengals back to the Super Bowl if he’s their head coach in my opinion.
Minnesota Vikings
Kevin O’Connell’s decision to let Sam Darnold leave and move forward with J.J. McCarthy may be his doom. If he takes the risk of starting him in 2026, I believe he won’t survive the whole season. McCarthy is young (23), but I also believe he’s a bottom 10 QB. McDaniels could get a QB early in the 2027 Draft and add more weapons around Justin Jefferson.
