Grading the Joe Brady signing

Grading the Brady signing

By: Jake Rajala

I recently said the Buffalo Bills have to make sure to keep Joe Brady in the building. It was a wise, safe move to promote Brady, rather than watch him become a head coach for a different team. Under Brady, Josh Allen has won an MVP. Allen is also an MVP candidate this season. His best performance this season came when he took down Drake Maye and the New England Patriots.

Sadly, the Bills couldn’t get to the Super Bowl this season. They need to make more moves than just firing Sean McDermott. They need to build up their defense and even add another superb weapon for Allen. They shouldn’t have to rely on 50/50 balls to a washed up Brandin Cooks in the playoffs. Allen is getting the Aaron Rodgers treatment, where he isn’t given Pro Bowl talent at WR.

With that said, the key question is: what the grade for the Brady signing?

I would give them a B. They retained Brady, who is one of the best offensive minds in the league. However, It was certainly possible to hire a defensive mind at HC and keep Brady at the same time. Chris Shula would have been an ideal target in my opinion. Brian Flores would be another HC candidate.

Brady is still quite young, so he has a lot to learn. He is 36 years old, which is four years younger than Sean McVay and one year younger than Kellen Moore.

My dream targets at DC for the Bills is Rex Ryan and Gregg Williams. They have been in Buffalo before. Raheem Morris returned to Atlanta and Josh McDaniels returned to the Patriots. It’s not an outlandish idea for coaches to return to places where they once coached.
