5 best non QB candidates to win Super Bowl MVP

Best candidates to win Super Bowl MVP

By: Jake Rajala

There are a lot of prolific players in this Super Bowl. It’s nearly impossible to predict who will win MVP. Nonetheless, I will aim to do my best and lay out five players, who aren’t QBs, that could win the award.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

We’ve seen Julian Edelman and Cooper Kupp win Super Bowl MVP in recent memory. Jaxon Smith-Njigba has all the tools to win the award, as well. He’s arguably the Hawks best overall player! Jaxon recorded 153 yards on 10 grabs in the NFC Championship. Klint Kubiak will pull every play-call to allow Jaxon to succeed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he even threw the ball in the game.

TreyVeyon Henderson

TreVeyon Henderson was one of the top rookies this season. All he did was record 911 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. He averaged 5.1 YPC, which is impressive. I expect the Pats to run the ball and wear down the Seahawks front seven, so they can’t tee off on Drake Maye in the passing game.

DeMarcus Lawrence

We’ve seen DeMarcus Lawrence bully offensive linemen all season. He has two sacks and three forced fumbles in his past two games combined. He has a PFF grade of 82.9, which is modest. I expect Lawrence to lay everything on the line, as this may be his last season. After all, he is 33 years old.

Ernest Jones

We have witnessed former Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith win Super Bowl MVP. Perhaps it’s time for another LB to win MVP. This would be none other than Ernest Jones. All he has done this season was notch five interceptions! In the divisional round, he recorded an interception and a forced fumble.

Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs is the Pats best WR and it’s not close. The Pats need to give him the ball in space, such as screens, quick slants, and even a couple of deep shots. I’d also like to see him targeted in the endzone. He recorded 1,013 receiving yards this season. He most likely won’t be pulling off any miracles in the game, but he could make a big play and push his team closer to victory.
