Best free agent destinations for Kirk Cousins

Best destinations for Kirk Cousins

By: Jake Rajala

The secret is out: the Atlanta Falcons plan to release the 37 year old, Kirk Cousins before the start of the new year. Kirk played better this season (2025-2026) than last season. Nonetheless, the Falcons may want to move forward with Michael Penix, or draft a new QB. With that said, I’m going to lay out the best free agent destinations for him.

Minnesota Vikings

“Tell the world, I’m coming home”

It’s safe to say that J.J. McCarthy is far from the answer at QB1 for the Vikings right now. He needs to sit and develop more before having the keys to the offense. Of course, Cousins has chemistry with Kevin O’Connell. They can most certainly make the playoffs together. They went 13-4 together in 2022.

Atlanta Falcons

Cousins went 5-3 with the Falcons and finished off strong. The issue is that he was paid quite too much. Perhaps they can have a reunion, where Cousins gets a one or two year deal to prove himself. Cousins had a PFF grade of 76, which is average. The Falcons don’t have the most impressive division. Cousins may be enough to help them get over the hump.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders don’t need to start Fernando Mendoza right away, assuming he’s their number one pick. It may be wise to bring in a veteran to start in the “near” future. At the very least, a veteran QB can compete against a rookie, and that will bring out the best version of both QBs.

Houston Texans

CJ Stroud has failed to live up to his first season. He unleashed four interceptions in his final playoff game. He also just threw 1 TD and 1 interception in the wildcard game and then one int in Week 18. He needs to turn it up in big moments and not the other way around.

Arizona Cardinals

I wouldn’t be shocked if the Arizona Cardinals traded Kyler Murray this offseason. I’d love to see Jacoby Brissett and another veteran QB compete for the starting QB spot. The Cardinals have some serious weapons with Marvin Harrison Jr and Trey McBride.

New Orleans Saints

I would like to see the Saints trade Spencer Rattler and then not resign Taysom Hill. This would make them desperate for a new QB2. I should also point out that Tyler Shough has had numerous serious injuries in his football career. Insert Cousins.

New York Jets

The New York Jets don’t know how to address their QB situation. Aaron Rodgers struggled in the Big Apple. Then they try the Justin Fields route. That didn’t work. I want to see them bring in a QB that isn’t 40 and has had some success. I’d love to see them bring in another weapon and try to reel in a talented QB.

Honorable Mention

Cleveland Browns

I’m not sold on Shedeur Sanders, who threw more ints than touchdowns last season. Sanders has a popular last name, but that doesn’t translate to success. I want to see Sanders sit for 1-2 years and then come out guns blazing and ready to prove he deserves to be their QB1.
