Lions free agents outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The Detroit Lions have some serious decisions to make on their roster. For starters, they have key free agents. They will have to decide who they want to resign. With that said, I’m going to discuss which free agents they should resign and who they shouldn’t take back.
D.J. Reader
DJ Reader wasn’t a menace last season. He only had 16 combined tackles, zero sacks, zero tackles for loss. He had an average PFF grade of 68.5. I would like to see the Lions bring in a DT that was as valuable as Suh and Fairly were to the Lions DL.
Alex Anzalone
The former Saints LB, Alex Anzalone, may not be a Pro Bowler. However, he is versatile and is arguably coming off his best season. He didn’y only have 95 combined tackles and four tackles for loss. He also had nine pass deflections! He only had a PFF grade of 67.5, so there’s clearly room to improve.
Al-Quadin Muhammad
Al-Quadin really burst out of a cannon last seasosn. He recorded 11 sacks, nine TFLs, 20 QB hits, and 25 tackles. He smashed his previous career high stats. I would like to see him return on a 2-3 year deal. He is 30, so he may not have many prolific seasons.
Kalif Raymond
Kalif isn’t a WR2 or even a true WR3. However, he can stretch the field and make splash plays. He is an impressive return specialist. He had a key 56 yard punt return touchdown against the Bears. I would like to see the Lions bring him back, mostly for his special teams ability.
Marcus Davenport
This one is easy. They should let Marcus Davenport leave and replace him a key pass rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson. Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson have been rumored as potential fits. Davenport only had one sack last season. Furthermore, he can’t stay healthy for a long period of time.
The Lions have a few decisions to make in free agency, mostly on their defensive side of the ball. Thankfully, they have already extended the likes of Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jameson Williams.
