5 biggest needs for the Kansas City Chiefs

Biggest needs for the Chiefs

By: Jake Rajala

The Kansas City Chiefs are far from perfect. That may be obvious given their 2025 collapse. With that said, I’m going to talk about the needs for the Chiefs.

WR

I don’t love the Chiefs group of wideouts, to say the least. They have a few B-quality WRs (in Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Hollywood Brown). JuJu is also a free agent. I want to see one or two A-quality wideouts. They should reunite with former All-Pro WR Tyreek Hill.

TE

Travis Kelce, also known as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, will be a free agent this offseason. If he doesn’t retire this offseason, it’s still safe to say he’s lost a step. Kelce had 76 catches, which was his lowest total since 2015. He also only had 851 receiving yards, which was the second most in his career. He also had 108 targets, which was his lowest figure since 2015, too.

Edge

The Chiefs have Chris Jones (who is somewhat inconsistent), but they are missing edge rushers on defense. George Karlaftis isn’t a Pro Bowl Quality Edge rusher, or even a Top-20 DE. Furthermore, Felix Anudike-Uzomah sat out last season due to a hamstring injury. In 2024, he wasn’t special, as he notched 2.5 sacks, several QB hits, and six TFLs. I want to see a superb edge rusher that can get after the likes of Josh Allen, Drake Maye, and Joe Burrow.

LT

I wasn’t a big fan of Josh Simmons this past season. He has mowed down defenders on occasion, but consistency doesn’t suit him well. He had a PFF grade of 62.7, which was 58th among tackles. He registered a pass blocking grade of 48.1, which was 83 out of 89 tackles!

QB

I know it may seem strange to put QB as a need for the Chiefs. After all, the Chiefs may have a Top-5 QB in NFL history. Nonetheless, they need a proper QB2. Gardner Minshew was a dud. Chad Henne stepped in admirably in the past. I’d love to see them bring in the likes of Marcus Mariota, Teddy Bridgewater, or Joe Flacco.

As you can see, the Chiefs need more help on offense than defense. Having Mahomes may cloud the fact that he needs more help around him. Their defense has key pieces. I’d like to see them have a more superb pass rush, however. It starts up front.
