NFC East offensive triplets outlook
By: Jake Rajala
It’s official: the (6-9-1) Dallas Cowboys are retaining running back Javonte Williams on a three year deal worth $24 million dollars. Williams is sticking around with Dak Prescott and Cedee Lamb. Clearly, they have quite the offensive trio. The real question is: Where does the Cowboys trio rank in the NFC East?
So, I’m going to rank the NFC East triplets.
4. Washington Commanders
Jayden Daniels is making me a bit worried about his sophomore slump. He went 2-5 last season.I hope he won’t follow in the footsteps as RG3, He wasn’t the same QB that led his team to the NFC Championship. Chris Rodriguez Jr. isn’t a dangerous “starting” RB, as well. He merely had 500 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns last season. Scary Terry may be on my fantasy team, but he’s not consistent enough to make the Pro Bowl.
3. New York Giants
The Giants offensive triplet could be a Top-5 triplet in a few years. Right now, they are still developing and young. Jaxson Dart was the second best rookie QB last season (behind Tyler Shough). Cam Skattebo reminds me of Peyton Hillis. He is a maniac with the ball in his hands. If he stayed healthy, he would have had a real shot at winning OROY. As for Malik Nabers, he only played in four games last season. In 2024, he unleashed 1,204 receiving yards and several touchdowns.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
This decision wasn’t easy.
I believe the Cowboys have a better triplet than Philly. Nonetheless, the Eagles still have a potent offensive triplet. Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts took a step back last season. Barkley still ran over 1k yards. However, PFF slotted him as the 42nd best RB (out of 55). AJ Brown is a Top-10 WR and capable of stretching the field and taking the hits across the middle of the field. Brown has been upset with his situation, so he may not be an eagle long-term.
1. Dallas Cowboys
I really like Dak Prescott more than Hurts. Prescott threw 30 touchdowns and 4,552 passing yards a season ago. In 2023, he also threw a league high, 36 touchdowns. The Boys just gave a new contract to Williams (as noted). He was ranked as the 19th best RB by PFF. I would say it’s a toss up between Ceedee Lamb and Brown, regarding which WR is more prolific. Lamb made his fifth straight Pro Bowl last season.
Someone may ask: If Dallas has a better offensive trio than Philly, then why are the Eagles better? Well, it’s time to look at the other side of the ball. Eagles have one of the best front sevens (with Jalen Carter and Zack Baun). The Boys were 32nd in PPG allowed last season, while the Eagles were sixth in PPG allowed!
