Giants draft reflection
By: Jake Rajala
The GMEN have made some fascinating picks. They have really built up their o-line and d-line. It reminds me of the Detroit Lions bringing in OT Penei Swell and DE Adian Hutchinson. With that said, I’m going to discuss the Giants draft.
Pass rush haven
The Giants love edge rushers more than how Al Davis loves taking a kicker in the first round. The Giants reeled in Arvell Reese fifth overall. This comes after they carry Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Kavyon Thibodeux. The Giants ranked 17th in sacks last season, so there’s clearly room to improve. Interestingly, Matt Miller has compared him to Abdul Carter. There were rumors of them potentially trade Kavyon. Their price was too high.
Weapons
I liked that the Giants drafted a WR in Malachi Fields in the third round. I still am not the biggest fan of their patience. I would have liked to see the GMEN draft a weapon earlier than the third round. If they wanted a quality weapon, they should have traded their third round pick for a modest WR. The Giants don’t have a lot of firepower. Hell, they even brought in OBJ for a visit. Cam Skattebo could even use a RB2 or a 1B.
I like their main focus in the first round of the draft. However, I would like it slightly more if they drafted Kenyon Sadiq ahead of Francis Mauigoa. Kenyon can be an All-Pro TE. He would really help the young Jaxson Dart.
If the New England Patriots are unable to acquire the All-Pro WR AJ Brown, it would be quite wise for the Giants to trade one of their four prominent edge rushers for the WR1. We’ve seen the Saints just trade their late round pick for Tyreese Wilson. It’s never too late for the Giants to flip their sixth round pick for a veteran WR.
