3 goals for the Broncos post draft

Goals for the Broncos post draft

By: Jake Rajala

The Denver Broncos didn’t have a first or second round pick. I still enjoyed their third round pick (Tyler Onyedim) and their numerous fourth round picks (Jonah Coleman and Kage Casey). With that said, the Broncos have to get back to the drawing board and figure out how to improve their team. Well, I’m going to lay out a few goals for the Broncos.

Get some ex Saints players

Sean Payton needs to capitalize off his chemistry with the Saints. He was around some very prolific players. There are still some “former” Saints players that are free agents. He could add Taysom Hill, who was arguably the best athlete that Payton ever had. He won’t play QB for the Broncos, but he could be a TE/WR/FB. Furthermore, Payton could lure in Cameron Jordan. Jordan turned back the clock last season with 10.5 sacks. Jordan could give Nik some rest. Let’s not forget the Saints weren’t scared to get former Bronco DeVaughn Vele.

Find a TE

I love the athletic ability from Evan Engram. However, he is 31 years old and he’s not an answer long-term. If they want to be in a “win now” mode, I wouldn’t mind seeing them bring in Darren Waller. Their other TE is Adam Trautman. He is a former Saints player that was plucked from the Saints. He is more so of a blocking TE, rather than an electric receiving TE. Jonnu Smith is a sharp option.

Find an inside linebacker

They weren’t able to acquire the former Saints All-Pro MLB Demario Davis. Sadly, Payton wasn’t able to bring Jonathan Vilma out of retirement. Alex Singleton is a modest MLB at best. He had an 70.4 PFF grade from last season. He isn’t a thumper or an overly fast, sideline to sideline MLB. Justin Strnad showed some signs of life last season with 4.5 sacks and an interception.

The Broncos could absolutely win the division next season. We witnessed the once Alpha Kansas City Chiefs miss the playoffs a season ago! They could have the best HC-QB tandem in the division. Truthfully, I like Payton more than Big Red.
