Which RB could win OROY?
By: Jake Rajala
The NFL OROY award rarely goes to running backs. 2018 was the last time that a running back won OROY and it was Saquon Barkley. Well, I believe this class has many names that could win the award. Hence, I’m going to lay them out.
Jeremiyah Love
Let’s get the obvious pick out of the way. Jeremiyah Love is special. Love had the highest grade by NFL.com (6.73) coming out of the draft. He was compared to Jahmyr Gibbs. Love will be Top-5 in carries in my opinion. The Cardinals have no choice but to lean on him. I believe his power is relatable to Tomlinson. Of course, LT was drafted fifth overall.
Mike Washington
Mike Washington could very well be one of the steals of the draft. Somehow he slipped to the fourth round, where the Raiders snagged him. He ran a 4.33 40 yard dash! That’s the same 40 time as Reggie Bush. Yes, that’s the same Bush that helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl. Ashton Jeanty and Washington could be one of the best young RB duos in the league.
Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman was another fourth round pick by an AFC West squad. Of course, I’m talking about the Denver Broncos. Coleman is set to make an impact, according to Heavy. He had the third highest score by NFL.com. He reminds me a lot of Pierre Thomas, who was a bowling ball for the Saints. Sean Payton loves to have a “few” gifted RBs. He now has JK Dobbins, RJ Harvey, and Coleman.
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price was the second RB taken in the first round. He was also the second Notre Dame RB taken in the first round. It’s hard not to like him, as he plays for the Seahawks. We witnessed Kenneth Walker dazzle in the playoffs for SEA. On the flip-side, Price doesn’t have the former genius Klint Kubiak calling the shots, as he’s in Las Vegas.
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson had the sixth highest score among RBs. He isn’t large (5’10, 202), but he can pick up extra yardage and be a quality pass catcher on third downs. He can be like former Chiefs RB “Jet McKinnon” for the Chiefs. I believe this pick eliminates the need to bring back Kareem Hunt.
There is one special RB in Jeremiyuh Love. There aren’t any more Adrian Peterson-like ball-carriers, but there’re are “many” quality RBs. A few of these RBs are in a system that can really help them thrive.
