Best destinations for Baker Mayfield
By: Jake Rajala
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an issue on their hands. They can’t agree on a contract extension with Baker Mayfield. Per Bleacher Report, the Bucs NEED to extend their veteran QB. If they can’t agree on money, perhaps it’s best to part ways. Hence, I’m going to lay out potential trade destinations for Baker.
Arizona Cardinals
Believe it or not, Baker (31 years old) is younger than Jacoby Brissett (32). Brissett went 1-11 with the Cards last season. He also had a PFF grade of 70.6, which was 25th among QBs. The Cardinals blatantly need a QB. Carson Beck is far from a sure-fire starting QB.
Minnesota Vikings
The three musketeers.
The fact that the Vikings carry J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray doesn’t mean they have the “right” QB onboard. Baker has outplayed Murray and McCarthy in recent memory. Justin Jeffersons’ deep speed and crisp route running could be utilized best by an arm with off the charts arm strength.
Cleveland Browns
Baker is more reliable than Deshaun Watson, who went 1-6 with the team in 2024. Baker also played his first four seasons with the team. Just as we witnessed Geno Smith return to the Jets, where he was drafted. We could witness Baker return to the team that drafted him!
Washington Commanders
Perhaps a new change in scenery for Baker and Jayden Daniels would be beneficial. Jayden can’t follow in the foot-steps of RG3. He needs to switch squads before it’s too late. The QB in him that led his team to an NFC Championship is still in him. Scary Terry may prefer a stronger “pocket” QB, such as Baker.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens may be interested in a significant trade that includes Lamar Jackson and receives Baker and a first round pick in return. Lamar can make more plays without an elite WR group, than Baker can without a top-notch WR group. Lamar is 29, so he has several more seasons left in the tank.
Baker isn’t washed up by any means. He is just in a complex contract situation. We’ve seen many QBs switch teams from this crisis. Baker may very well end up on a team that has more toys and more creative coaching. I hope both sides can find an “long-term” answer.
