Sweat trade destinations right now
By: Jake Rajala
Josh Sweat has been one of the premier pass rushers over the past few seasons. He had 12 sacks last season and eight in the season prior. His contract is worth roughly $75 million dollars, over four years. Hence, there has been a lot of speculation that he could get traded. With that said, I’m going to lay out potential trade destinations for him.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders lost their top pass rusher from last season: Von Miller. He recorded nine sacks. K’Lavon and Odafe Oweh are both “modest” edge rushers, but they aren’t quite double digit sack artists. The Commanders need to get back to the NFC Championship. If Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin can stay healthy, then they have the right offense. With Sweat on defense, they will have the right defense.
Detroit Lions
Aidan Hutchinson has the potential to win DPOY. This doesn’t mean that they can’t upgrade their DE spot across Hutch. Their starting DE DJ Wonnum merely had three sacks a season ago. Sweat had four times as many sacks. DJ had a PFF grade of 54.8, which was good for 97th among DEs.
Los Angeles Rams
I’d love to see Myles Garrett, Sweat, and Byron Young in the same group of edge rushers. The Rams are near the level that they need to be, if they want to win another Super Bowl. Les Snead loves to make blockbuster trades, too. If the Rams can’t get another stud DL via a trade, I’d love to see Aaron Donald make a return.
Dallas Cowboys
The “America’s Team” has had one of the worst defenses in all of football recently. The Boys ranked 32nd in PPG allowed. They were also 24th in sacks. To make matters worse, they haven’t brought back Jadeveon Clowney. Of course, they brought in Quinnen Williams, but he’s not a dominant “edge” player.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders could benefit from another edge player across Mad Maxx. Let it be known that Crosby has faced plenty of trade rumors this offseason. Perhaps there could be a deal involving the two sides. Of course, I’d say Crosby is better than Sweat, so the Cardinals would have to include draft picks with Sweat.
Honorable Mention:
Seattle Seahawks
Everyone should want to join the defending Super Bowl Champions. After all, they had the best scoring defense in the league last season. DeMarcus Lawrence and Leonard Williams are stout up front. Their secondary isn’t the Legion of Boom, but they have many underrated faces.
