Best storylines heading into training camp
By: Jake Rajala
The NFL training camp is arriving in late July. It’s vital that teams prepare for their season right now. With that said, I’m going to lay out the biggest storylines headed into camp.
How does the new Rams defense look?
The biggest trade this offseason had to be none other than Myles Garrett getting shipped to the LA Rams. Of course, he broke the sack record last season. He is 30 years old, so he should be in his prime for a couple of more seasons, at least. The Rams lost Jared Verse in the deal for Garrett, so it will be fascinating to see how they replace him. We all wish Aaron Donald made a return to LA.
The sophomore QBs
It will be intriguing to see which sophomore QB shows the most growth heading into year two. The notable second year QBs are Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, and Shedeur Sanders. The QB that showed the most talent and guts last season had to be Shough. He will now welcome Jordyn Tyson and Travie Etienne to his offense. Dart and Ward should start. Hopefully, Dart has a healthy Malik Nabers in his offense. As for Ward, I hope Carnell Tate can be the next OBJ for the GMEN. Shedeur may take the backseat to Deshaun Watson in 2026.
How potent is Aaron Rodgers?
The most productive QB in the NFL right now is Aaron Rodgers. A-Rod also plays for one of the most legendary fan bases. Steelers fans eat, sleep, and watch football. The Steelers also added more weaponry (Michael Pittman) for Rodgers and he has his old coach (Mike McCarthy) back, as well.
Will the Chiefs offense be unstoppable again?
We all witnessed Patrick Mahomes be the Michael Jordan of football. However, he hasn’t been himself lately. He suffered a torn ACL to make it worse. The good news is that he is cleared for 11 on 11. His offense will also look a little different. He has Kenneth Walker and Xavier Worthy is expected to be a stud.
Will the 49ers stay healthy?
If the 49ers stay healthy, they could win it all. They have Brock Purdy, CMAC, and George Kittle. Purdy only played in nine games last season, Kittle played in 11 games, and CMAC only played in four games in 2024. Let’s not forget that Nick Bosa and Fred Warner have had season ending injuries in recent memory.
Will Geno Smith turn back the clock?
I’m not a big fan of the Jets depending a lot on Geno Smith. Smith threw 15 interceptions in 2024 and 17 ints last season. The Jets don’t exactly have weapons that can really uplift Smith. He will need to know when to take risks and try to be consistent. Perhaps the Jets can bring in another weapon for Smith.
Will the Broncos take the next step?
We all witnessed the Denver Broncos reach impressive heights last season by making the AFC Championship. Their defense led the league in sacks. Bo Nix was a bit of a game manager. He threw 25 touchdowns. I’d like to see him throw at least 32 touchdowns. I’d love to see Taysom Hill reunite with Sean Payton in Denver, as well.
