Burning question for each NFC South team
By: Jake Rajala
The NFC South was one of the weakest divisions last season. There wasn’t a single team with a .500 or better record last season. On the bright side, there were a lot of young, talented players on these squads. With that said, I’m going to unleash a burning question for each NFC South squad.
New Orleans Saints: Where does Alvin Kamara fit in?
The Saints signed former Clemson stud Travis Etienne to a hefty contract of $4 years over $48 million. They still decided to bring back Alvin Kamara and even extend him. The question is: how will Kamara fit in? I fully expect Etienne to be the lead cat. They also have Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson at WR. They will have to get creative with Kamara and not make it obvious that he’s on the field for a screen or short route.
Carolina Panthers: Can Tetairoa McMillan be an All-Pro?
The Panthers really need to lean on Tetairoa McMillan, who won OROY last season. The Panthers need him in a moment of key growth for the talented Bryce Young. He had 1,014 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He somehow didn’t make it into the Pro Bowl. The last three WRs to be named OROY are OBJ, Ja’Marr Chase, and Garrett Wilson. The pressure is on McMillan to shine, in other words.
Atlanta Falcons: Who will be the starting QB?
The Falcons have one of the biggest questions among any team in the NFL. This would obviously be: who will be the Falcons starting QB? It will be between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix. Tua has led the league in completion percentage and passing yards before. Michael just needs to stay healthy, so we know what he’s capable of. I’d honestly like to see a third QB join the battle.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: How will they replace Mike Evans?
Mike Evans is arguably the Buccaneers best WR of all time. Furthermore, he is arguably a future Hall of Famer! Well, all good things come to an end. Evans went to the San Francisco 49ers. The Bucs still have Emeka Egbuka and Chris Godwin at WR. It will be fascinating to see which WR will be the go-to guy for Baker Mayfield.
There are many key questions facing a weak division. Even if these teams respond nicely to these questions, it’s not a guarantee that they will make the playoffs. I’d still love to see growth from each team last season.
