Grading recent pass rusher signings

Recent pass rusher signings

By: Jake Rajala

There are a few really important positions in the game of football. Of course, quarterback is one of them. Well, another key spot is none other than the edge rusher. After all, we just witnessed the Los Angeles Rams acquire Myles Garrett, who broke the sack record last season. Micah Parsons was also traded from the Cowboys to the Packers. We also saw Khalil Mack get traded in recent memory. With that said, we recently saw Jadeveon Clowney and Von Miller signed new contract. So, I’m going to grade these signings.

Jadeveon Clowney to Houston Texanas: A-

It’s quite majestic that Jadeveon Clowney is returning to the team that drafted him. He made a couple of plays in Week 2. He got in the face of the QB and messed up a pass. Clowney showed that he is still explosive. The former first overall pick had 8.5 sacks, 12 TFLs, and four pass deflections. He did this all in 13 games. Perhaps he can reel in J.J. Watt from retirement and get the gang back together. Clowney may not be a three-down LB, but he can make magic happen on key third downs. Clowney may be old, but they have two younger, elite pass rushers.

Von Miller to the Dallas Cowboys: B

It’s also magical that Von Miller is returning to the state where he played college football. He played CFB at Texas A and M University. Miller isn’t “washed up” quite yet. He is coming off a season where he unleashed nine sacks and 15 QB hits. I don’t believe Miller can’t be effective at this stage in his career. I just believe they should have brought someone in younger, to properly replace Micah Parsons.

Cameron Jordan to the Saints

As a die-hard Saints fan, I was worried that he wouldn’t be returning to the city that adores him. Jordan is not only a Saints Hall of Famer, but he should also be cast into the Hall of Fame. Jordan is 36 years old and 2026 will likely be his last season. I expect Jordan to stay fresh with Chase Young and Carl Granderson as the starters.

There has been recent moves in the pass rusher world. There may not be many more available quality FA edge rushers, but there are always options to make top-end trades for pass rushers. Joey Bosa and Haason Reddick are the top two available DEs.
